WHERE TO STAY IN KEFALONIA: FISKARDO VILLAGE

Fiskardo

A holiday in Kefalonia wouldn’t be complete without break in the little and lively village of Fiskardo. Fiskardo, which until 25 years ago was a simple fishing village, is today the poshest town and the gem of the island, but also the most typical. Houses in Fiskardo are built respecting the traditional Venetian style of the past and the surrounding forests are protected by government law.

Fine restaurants by the sea, nice shops, a Roman cemetery, a few cocktail bars, and lovely houses, everything garnished by crystalline waters. All along the road that goes from the town centre to Foki beach, you will find lots of spots on the rocks and little stone stairs to get to the sea and have a snorkelling break!

I decided to book our apartments here because the northern part of the island inspired me a lot. When I saw its rough coastline and pebbles beaches with the greenery background were perfect for us. I wanted to explore as much as possible this part of the island but also enjoy a bit of social and nightlife again after all these lockdowns.

It is nice to have a walk by the sea, browsing around the shops and see some social gatherings. A tasty of normal life again.

Enjoy your “under the sunset” signature cocktail with rum, Greek masticha and mantarine fresh puree.

There are a couple of supermarkets in town and a local bakery where you can buy the traditional Kefalonian meat pie, fresh bread, baklavas and other yummy stuff! If you wish to chill out after dinner and have some nice cocktails, I can recommend the GRECO CAFE’ which is also the most lively with some music. If you prefer something quieter and chick then go for LE PASSAGE and you’ll find some very nice signature cocktails. I can recommend the “under the sunset” and “the pirate bay” coctkails.

STELLA HOTEL APARTMENTS

What did I love the most about these apartments? The view! Having breakfast or dinner on the balcony overlooking Fiskardo’s bay was absolutely amazing. The apartment was of a decent size, with a big balcony with a fantastic view. Well equipped kitchen with hob, big fridge, microwave, kettle, a little oven, and toaster. You will also find an iron and iron board in case you get inspired šŸ˜‰ The bathroom was a bit small but all right.

The cleaning service took place every day which is very good considering that they are apartments. The owner was very nice and friendly. We found a small bottle of local wine in our room and a little bottle of Kefalonia olive oil. I love the welcoming attitude of Greek people!

You will find public PARKING in the street, which means you can park everywhere you find a space! They usually provide breakfast as well at an extra charge but, unfortunately, due to covid the service was interrupted.

LOCATION WISE, this apartment is at a convenient distance from the town centre. You can walk into town and it will take about 10 minutes. Ideal if you have eaten too much at dinner in one of the tavernas! You can also use the car and park in Fiskardo car park.

We always found a spot (it was September though). It is also quite close to the gorgeous Foki beach (10 minutes if you walk). In case you are not u for a walk right below the apartments, there is are some stairs that will take you to a nice spot on the rocks with crystalline waters.

DOWNSIDES:

The air conditioner system looked quite old and noisy. You could hear all the noises coming from the aisle as the doors were not exactly hermetic.

Some things looked a bit overused but perfectly functioning. I would definitely recommend this place and I would definitely choose it again.

KAMINAKIA STUDIOS AND APARTMENTS

Very close to the Stella apartments there are the Kaminakia apartments. The apartments are located approximately 700 meters from the centre of Fiskardo and are run by a friendly and helpful guy. There is a small private parking for guests and a nice large swimming pool.

The apartments are provided with equipped kitchenette and a large terrace that overlooks Ithaca island, where you can enjoy your meals or sip ouzo after dinner while gazing at the stars. In the kitchen, you will find a hob, a kettle a small fridge and a toaster plus varied cookware. The air conditioner is powerful and silent. The bed is comfortable and provided with a mosquitoes curtain,m which you will need! The wifi is good and complimentary. Note that you will have to buy your own shower gel and toiletries.

The cleaning service was on a daily basis apart from the last day of our stay. Cleanliness was spot on.

DOWNSIDES

Kaminakia apartments can be a good solution although our room was very small. There wasn’t even the space to open our large luggage so we had to do it on the terrace. The bathroom was very small with no fan. Luckily the air conditioning system was powerful because the temperature inside the apartment was very high. On the terrace as well gets very hot despite the sun curtain. If you are going to use a hairdryer then you’ll have to bring one as despite what Booking states there wasn’t one. There was an iron but no iron board.

NOSTIMON EMAR SEA VIEW MAISONETTES KEFALONIA IN VLACHATA

Vlachata is not cute and immaculate as Fiskardo but still, is a good base to explore the southern part of Kefalonia. Located 20 minutes driving from Argostoli and the airport, 45 minutes from Sami and 35 minutes from Skala.

Vlachata does not have a real centre, however, there are lots of tavernas, bakeries and minimarkets scattered around and at Lourdas beach which is 4/5 of minutes driving from the house.

Nostimon Emar It is a quiet location with a stunning view over the bay. This is a complex of small villas, each one with its own little garden and private access to the outdoor swimming pool with sunbeds. This was the best apartment we had in Kefalonia.

You will have an entire house at your disposal. Two bathrooms, a large and well-equipped kitchen with a huge fridge, hob, oven, kettle, toaster and microwave. Plenty of room, 2 balconies with tables and chairs, washing machine and drying rack.

It was so nice to wake up and open the window to the garden and have breakfast upstairs looking at the blue of the Ionian sea.

The host is very welcoming and friendly and even offered us some gifts before our departure.

DOWNSIDES

Wi-fi wasn’t very reliable and the phone signal on the ground floor was pretty bad.
